<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>One of the promising areas is the design and modification of materials for control over the fate of multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (MMSCs) that will allow stroma of various human and animal organs and tissues to be constructed. However, the discussion about the existence and functioning of microenvironment for the MMSCs is just beginning to develop. The design of artificial materials that are able to reproduce biomimetically the cellular and tissue microenvironment and based on ideas and main elements borrowed from wildlife is current direction in a development of medical materials technology and tissue bioengineering. Scaffold technology is a promising experimental approach to simulate the properties of natural microenvironment of stem cells. Our aim is a short review of key elements of MMSC microterritories, its advanced investigations and the attempts of modeling in application to tissue bioengineering and regenerative medicine.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>стволовые клетки</kwd><kwd>микроокружение</kwd><kwd>экстрацеллюлярный матрикс</kwd><kwd>биоматериалы</kwd><kwd>кость</kwd><kwd>биоинженерия</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>stem cells</kwd><kwd>microenvironment</kwd><kwd>extracellular matrix</kwd><kwd>biomaterials</kwd><kwd>bone</kwd><kwd>bioengineering</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group><funding-statement xml:lang="ru">Минобрнауки России, соглашение № 14.575.21.0164 от 26.09.17 (уникальный идентификатор RFMEFI57517Х0164) в рамках Федеральной целевой программы «Исследования и разработки по приоритетным направлениям развития научно-технологического комплекса России на 2014– 2020 годы»</funding-statement><funding-statement xml:lang="en">Federal Target Program of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation (agreement 14.575.21.0164, ID number RFMEFI57517X0164) “Research and innovations in priority areas of development of Russian scientific and technological complex for 2014–2020”</funding-statement></funding-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Terskikh V.V., Vasiliev A.V., Vorotelyak E.A.
