Abstract

For the diagnosis and prognosis of various diseases is essential to determine specific markers in blood serum. Neuronspecific enolase (NSE) is a common marker of differentiatedneurons. The aim of the study was to evaluate the activity of NSE in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) and chronic cerebral ischemia. The study results showed that the activity of NSE varied dependingon sex and age in PD patients, the stage and rate of progression of disease, age debut and severity of cognitive impairment. Thus, determination of NSE in the serum of PD patients should be included in the complex examination of patients with PD, as an additional marker of the neurodegenerative process.

Abstract

A frequency of secondary hypogonadism after surgical treatment of patients with tumors of the chiasmosellar aria was defined. 30 patients were examined. A secondary hypogonadism was revealed in 70% of cases. The average levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) both in male in female were lowered or were on the low bound of the norm. This phenomenon denotes to the secondary nature of the hypogonadism. Most often secondary hypogonadism developed in patients operated apropos of the craniopharyngeoma and prolactinoma.

Abstract

The perinatal hypoxia (PH) in preterm newborns is associated with elevated levels of matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP-9), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances in umbilical cord blood plasma. The severity of PH Apgar scores correlated with SOD (r = –0,40; p = 0,006) and MMP-9 (r = 0,36; p = 0,023). It is assumed that the SOD increase prevents the reactive oxygen species mediated activation of MMP-9, which destroy the collagen of the basement membrane of the bloodbrain barrier.

Abstract

Results of complex research of features of clinical and immunological profiles tick-borne encephalitis during the sharp period in Tomsk Region are resulted in the article. Last years redistribution of a parity of clinical displays of the sharp period in favor of prevalence of feverish forms of disease and a tendency to increase in cases of long circulation of an antigene of a virus tick-borne encephalitis is marked. One of the important reasons of such effect is decrease in immunological reactance of an organism with development of cytokine’s disbalance and expression infringement receptors of cytokines with lymphocytic cages.

Abstract

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was used for diagnosis of thoracic disc herniations and for management strategy determination. 24 symptomatic patients underwent MRI using sagittal T1 and T2-weighted spine echo and axial multiplanar gradient refocused images. Disc herniations were classified according to their size, location in the spinal canal and to the extent of cord compromise. MRI data correlated with the neurological status in all cases and assisted in the management strategy determination. 10 (41,7%) patients with small disc herniations and compression of subarachnoid space demonstrated pseudoradicular syndrome and were managed conservatively. 14 (58,3%) patients with medium or large disc herniations and compression of the cord demonstrated myelopathy or radicularpathy syndrome and were managed surgically. Our results show that MRI is a useful diagnostic tool for diagnosis, management strategy determination and assessment of treatment results.

Abstract

The complex study of 63 patients was performed. It included 45 males and 18 females (the average age 31,5 ± ±13,3). All the patients had an acute stage of traumatic brain injury (TBI). The patients were divided into 3 groups. 27 patients had brain concussion, 12 and 24 patients suffered from mild and middle brain contusion. Emotional status study showed the increase of reactive anxiety. Life quality assessment showed a significant decrease in all of the questionnaire SF-36 scales. 15 brain contusion patients underwent neuroprotective therapy — they were given 10 intravenous injections of cerebrolysin within 10 days. All the patients showed less number of neurological symptoms, anxiety level and a significant quality of life improvement after the treatment. Thus, the acute stage of TBI is characterized by the quality of life and the adaptation capability decreasing. They are accompanied by the mild affective, emotional and autonomic impairment that demand neuroprotective treatment.
