Abstract

Induced sputum cytology, nitric oxide content in exhaled breath condensate and dynamics of these parameters against the background of glucocorticosteroid therapy were studied in patients with bronchial asthma exacerbation. Sixty four patients with different degree of bronchial asthma were included. The control group was represented by 20 healthy volunteers. It is shown, that monitoring of induced sputum and nitric oxide indices is informative to assess efficiency of anti-inflammatory therapy in bronchial asthma patients.

Abstract

Health subjects (n = 15), patients with bronchial asthma (n = 30), COPD (n = 16), and community-acquired pneumonia (n = 17) have been inspected in the mixed group (40 men, 38 women, 15-64 years old). The results of research of breathing patterns with interruption of air stream have been used to construct Raw, FEV1, FEV1% and FEV1/FVC% mathematical models. High diagnostic importance of FEV1% and FEV1/FVC% models in prediction of bronchial permeability disturbance has been shown.

Abstract

High accuracy of biophotonic scanning in estimation of skin carotinoid score (SCS) and antioxidant status after 8-week period of correction by LifePak, MarineOmega, and Tegreen97 active dietary supplements is proved in 45 healthy persons with cardiovascular risks and in patients with cardiovascular diseases. SCS increased by 42.8% (p = 0.005) and total antioxidant capacity of blood (TAC) increased by 36.4% (p = 0.005) in health people; while in patients SCS increased by 47.4% (p = 0.001) and TAC increased by 30.3% (p = 0.008). The SCS accuracy in estimation of antioxidant status was 87%.

Abstract

The erythrocyte distribution at the level of aortic arch is determined experimentally from structural-functional features. It is shown that there exists the mechanism of physiological separation of erythrocytes, which causes the prevalent income of younger and functionally valid forms of erythrocytes to brain and favors better oxygen supply of nerve cells.

Abstract

In men and women suffering from stable angina pectoris of 1-2 functional classes and aged from 35 to 69 years old, decrease of C 23:0 and increase of C 18:1(11) fatty acids was observed regardless of sex, the content of the rest fatty acids changed depending on patients sex. Correlation was found that metabolism of fatty acids in this pathology group depends on patients sex: men in the control group showed decrease in the sum of omega-3 fatty acids as well as in the omega-3/omega-6 fatty acid ratio, while women showed decrease of omega-6 fatty acids at the constant sum of omega-3 fatty acids. Regardless of sex, the presence of this pathology is accompanied with decrease in correlations between fatty acids, as the number of correlations between saturated fatty acids increases and the number of correlations between not saturated and saturated fatty aсids decreases. Change in correlations between not saturated fatty acids depends on sex. In the number of patients having supernormal fatty acid contents, no pronounced differences were found between men and women.

Abstract

This project studies peripheral erythron component in 160 patients with juvenile uterine bleeding depending on the tone of the autonomic nervous system. We found the following changes in morphology and functional status of erythrocytes: decrease of their dry weight and increase in number of transformed and degenerative forms. Cytochemical studies revealed a decrease in sulfa radicals in erythrocytes of these patients. These changes were particularly noticeable in cases of high sympatic tone of the autonomic nervous system.

Abstract

The influence of complex herbal remedy on the secretary and metabolic functions of a liver was investigated in rates with experimental toxic hepatitis and hypercholesterolemia. The result obtained have shown that complex herbal remedy shortened the time of evolution and decreased hepatic enzymes (AST, ALT, and GGT), alkaline phosphates, total bilirubin, and cholesterol. It has also been shown that complex herbal remedy increased the protein synthesis of hepatocyte and hampered lipolysis processes. On the other hand, the active components of this remedy regulated the excessive bile production. During complex herbal remedy administration, the rheologycal properties of bile are normalized, bile acid pool extends, and total cholesterol in bile reduces. Along with hepatoprotective properties, remedy has the expressive choleretic and cholekinetic effects.

Abstract

The impact of antihypertensive therapy with the angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor enalapril (enap) and with enalapril in combination with the long-acting calcium channel blocker verapamil SR (isoptin SR) on changes of plasmatic, vascular-thrombocytic hemostasis and lipid peroxidation in patients with metabolic syndrome and arterial hypertension was studied. Combined therapy with enalapril and verapamil significantly reduces the fasting glucose and glycated hemoglobin concentrations, the aggregation activity of thrombocytes in the patient's blood, inhibits the lipid peroxidation, increases the level of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and decreases the coefficient of atherogenecity. Combined therapy with enalapril and verapamil SR can be recommended for treatment of arterial hypertension in patients with metabolic syndrome.

Abstract

The object of this research was to study rat liver bioenergetics at pathology caused by inhibition of β-oxidation of fatty acids against the background of 4-pentenoic acid injection and at silymarin and Bergenia crassifolia extract therapy. The experiment was conducted with 50 nonpedigreed male rats. The functional state of the energy production system was estimated by the polarogaphic method from the rate of oxygen consumption in different Chans metabolic states. At silymarin therapy, increase was observed in the oxidative phosphorylation coupling in all metabolic states. The Bergenia crassifolia extract favored normalization of energy production parameters in rat liver mitochondria more efficiently than silymarint did.

Abstract

Basal skull fractures are frequent and cause certain difficulties in detection of the mechanism of their formation. Common dissecting methods do not allow detailed study of the external base of skull and deform facial soft tissues. A new method is developed, which allows determining the mechanism of formation of constructional fractures of the basal skull and pterygoid processes at various injuries, in particular, inside a passenger compartment at headon collision of motor vehicles. The method is registered as an invention.

Abstract

Long-term results of surgical treatment of 649 patients with different morphological forms of nodular goiter in terms of 15 to 3 years are analyzed. Postsurgical recurrent goiter was diagnosed in 26.8% (174 people). The most part of relapses falls on operations characterized by the large part of TG tissue rest (resection of TG lobe and node enucleation): 69.1% (139 patients of 201). No one relapse was diagnosed after thyreoidectomy. After extremely subtotal resection, relapses were observed in 2.2% (7 people of 312) and after hemithyroidectomy in 20.6% (26 people of 136). This study indicates inadequacy of operations such as node enucleation and resection of the lobe with a node, especially, if the node belongs to nodular colloid goiter, because in such operations the pathologically changed TG tissue is often rest and there is high probability of relapse.

Abstract

Risk factors for bronchial asthma in children of Chita Region were studied. According to the literature data, 12 clinical-anamnestic characteristics were suggested to be risk factors for bronchial asthma. Prevalence of risk factors was assessed in 72 children with severe asthma, 60 children with moderate, and 58 children with mild bronchial asthma. Odds ratios (OR) with the 95% confident interval for each factor were calculated. Factors with predominance in the asthma group included: parental history of asthma (OR = 16.2), congenital abnormalities and complications of pregnancy and labor (OR = 1.9), prenatal lesion of central nervous system (OR = 2.8), recurrent respiratory tract infections (OR = 12.4), coexisting atopic dermatitis (OR = 1.8), passive smoking (OR = 2.8), and food sensitization (OR = 7.7). The findings can be used to calculate individual risks in a population for prediction of development of this pathology and for its timely prevention.
